Whelan's Night - Monday, February 11th 2008 Join us on a very special version of our “Ghost and the
Gallows” tour on the most notorious day in the history of the old Carleton
County Jail. On February 11th, 1869, Patrick James Whelan was
executed on the gallows at the jail for the assassination of Thomas D’Arcy
McGee. To this day, many believe he was an innocent man and that his restless
spirit now wanders the halls of the old jail looking for the justice that has
long eluded him. After the tour, participants will be given the opportunity to join Glen Shackleton, director of Haunted Walks, in a ghost investigation of the jail. Are you brave enough to explore death row by yourself or try a Ouija board in one of the most haunted buildings in North America? This unique evening will conclude with a bone-chilling ceremonial dropping of the gallows.
Where? The tour will start at the Ottawa Jail Hostel at 75 Nicholas
Street. Space is very limited, reserve early to avoid disappointment. Contact us at 613-232-0344.
