Haunted Walk Staff 2008

The Haunted Walk tour guides are hand-picked from the best of local story-tellers, dramatists and amateur historians.  They are interesting, reliable and filled with information about the city 'beyond the tour'.  It truly wouldn't be much of a tour without them!  They always know a little something more about each story that they present, so be sure to ask lots of questions along the way.

Following are some of the tour guides and staff you will meet on the Haunted Walk this year...

Director

Glen Shackleton founded the Haunted Walk in 1995 with the intention of creating a job for himself where he could study local history, meet interesting people and convince total strangers to listen to all of the great stories he had gathered over the years. Glen has since been featured in local and national media as an acknowledged expert in the field of local history and ghost stories. Glen is the company administrator, problem-solver, lead researcher and dog-walker. Email him: info@hauntedwalk.com with your suggestions, comments, feedback and especially your ghost stories!

Ottawa Tour Guides

Jim, fearless manager of the Haunted Walk, is the lead vocalist for the critically acclaimed Shaky Gallows House Band.  His expertise in historical research has made him an acknowledged expert on the old Carleton County Jail.  He will sometimes emerge from the dark and dusty archives to give a tour to enchant customers with his knowledge of local lore.

Margo is a professional actor who has trained and performed in both England and Canada - made obvious by the tremendous quality of her tours. Margo has always been a big fan of ghost stories, and is getting to know them a lot more intimately as head of our  Ghost Investigation Unit.

Laura S.  has a sweet and charming nature that is easy to like. Her knack for detail and love of storytelling make her an excellent guide. She has given tours in both Ottawa and Kingston, and has a great appreciation for the spookier side of both cities' histories.

Dominique is the tenacious manager of the Haunted Walk and a proud Franco-Ontarian.  She has completed her Masters degree in Canadian History and her Teacher's Education Program at the University of Ottawa. She enjoys making history come to life on her tours and with her many trips to Romania, the country of vampires and werewolves, she really knows how to create an eerie atmosphere for ghosts stories...

Julie G. is a guide returning to us after having lived two years in the ghostly city of York, England. Her dark and scary style of tour is sure to send shivers running down your spine!

Kimberley L. has a degree in Zoology and certification in Ecotourism Management. She loves any type of storytelling including folklore, mythology and historical. Kimberley is also a seasoned traveller and travel agent, who knows what it takes to enjoy a destination.

Roy has over 15 years of musical theatre background, and is also a family history researcher - has discovered the odd skeleton in the cupboard, but no ghosts as yet - they don't appear in any censuses. You’ll be certain to enjoy his tour!

Mark has been "haunting" the streets of Ottawa for as long as he can remember.  From his days as a camp counselor and cemetery "landscaper" ghost stories have always held a fascination for him.  Now he brings his local background and storytelling skills to independent films, the Haunted Walk and you!

Bred, born, and raised in Ottawa, Linda enjoys sharing a true love of her hometown and its unique history with tour guests.  Like the many Irish immigrants who settled the Ottawa Valley, she is distinctly proud of her County Cork heritage. Contract writer by day and spooky tour guide by night, she's sure to make your tour an experience to remember -- for a very long time.

Amanda is currently pursuing her degree in Honors Biology at the University of Ottawa.  She developed her love and appreciation of ghost stories while working as a camp counselor at the old haunted camp.  Her cheerful disposition and heartily laugh puts people at ease and makes her an excellent tour guide.

Julie S. is an enthusiastic University of Ottawa student who has been a tour guide in Cambridge, England and in Ottawa.  She loves to explore the dark history of the city and she is looking forward  to her first ghostly encounter.

Kingston Guides

Joanne is a fourth year Drama and English student at Queen’s University who is happy to finally receive pay for being dramatic.  Although friends hope giving haunted tours will alleviate the incessant yacking she subjects them to, she doesn’t think this is at all likely.  She can’t wait to share stories with customers and has a personal goal of scaring you so much you experience the same amount of sleep she does when (putting off) essay writing.

Stephanie  is entering her sixth season with the Haunted Walk and her second season as the operations manager for the Kingston office. Native of la belle province, she has served a dual role at the Haunted Walk, giving tours in both Ottawa and Kingston. She is a history and international studies graduate from Queen's University as well a graduate of  Tourism Management from St. Lawrence College.

Sarah is a recent graduate of Queen's University with a degree in History and French and is very excited to be entering her 2nd season with the Haunted Walk.  This summer she will be spending her summer working very hard as our office coordinator in the lovely city of Kingston.  She will also be giving tours in both official languages and hopes you will join her one evening for a spectacularly spooky tour.  Although she may put up a brave face, don’t let this fool you as she is secretly terrified of everything that goes bump in the night…especially at the Fort!

Chelsea is spookily excited to be starting her second season with Haunted Walks.  When not wearing a cape and scaring children (and adults), she is studying Military History and Politics at Queen's University and the Royal Military College.  In her (very little) spare time, Chelsea enjoys mystery novels, funny movies and a good cup of tea, but nothing delights her more than conducting thrillingly terrifying tours of downtown and the Fort.  She hopes you will join her for a hauntingly memorable tour soon!

Rowena is entering her second year at Queen's University for Drama and English. She has always had a passion for the paranormal, fuelling this obsession with television shows. Recently, she's discovered Ghost Hunters and after hours of watching, can't help but hope she can have an exciting experience of her own. If that doesn't happen, she at least hopes she can make her groups tremble with her storytelling.

Cat is excited to be starting her first season with the Haunted Walks of Kingston. A Drama major in her fourth year at Queen's University, her interests range all the way from indoor rock climbing to juggling and Britcoms. She is very active behind-the-scenes in student theatre; however, Cat looks forward to her tours as an opportunity to get back into her first dramatic love: storytelling.

Suzie is excited to start her first season at the Haunted Walk. She enjoyed telling ghost stories with her friends when she was young and thought this would be a great experience. She has even had a ghostly encounter herself.  Dressing up has always been fun to her as well, so the cape is a plus!

Chris is a fourth year history student at Queen's University and is very excited to be starting his first year with Haunted Walks. He loves telling and hearing spooky stories and is looking forward to hearing from everyone on the tours. He will also be conducting tours in French and he is very happy to be spending his summer in beautiful Kingston.

Haunted Walk Hall of Fame (inaugurated in 2003)

This section is reserved for former tour guides who achieved great fame while at the Haunted Walk. Each year we will be inaugurating one guide who throughout their tenure achieved outstanding reviews, made exceptional contributions and was an invaluable member of the Haunted Walk team.

Lukas: Able to conduct tours in French, English as well as  impromptu tours in Italian, Lukas (AKA The Booth Godfather)  certainly fits the bill of exceptional tour guide and invaluable team member. He will be sorely missed by all of his co-workers as he has moved to the big city of Montreal and is now pursuing a career in massage therapy.
