Now entering our 13th season, The Haunted Walk is Ottawa's most popular walking tour company. Locals and newcomers alike are fascinated by these glimpses into the darker history and haunting of the Nation’s Capital. All of our stories are thoroughly researched and will delight even the skeptics in the group! Join us for one or all of our different tours, offered in the daytime and in the evening by lantern-light. The Haunted Walk is a member in good standing with the Ottawa Tourism and Convention Authority.

For reservations, purchase of tickets or souvenirs, our ticket office is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00AM to 4:00PM at 73 Clarence Street in the Byward Market.

Ottawa Tours


 

Ghosts and the Gallows

Duration: 90 mins
During the winter months (Nov-April) this tour departs from our ticket office at 73 Clarence Street.
From May-October this tour departs from our ticket booth at the corner of Sparks St. and Elgin St.


Visit death row and the gallows inside the Old Carleton County Jail and other haunted locations while your tour guide recounts more of Ottawa’s supernatural encounters. Was the wrong man hanged for the murder of D’Arcy McGee? Does he haunt the jail today? This tour includes stairs and is not wheelchair accessible. May be frightening for young children. A portion of the proceeds assists in the preservation of the HI-Ottawa Jail Hostel.

Crime & Punishment Jail Tours 

Guided Tours at the old Carleton County Jail (now the HI – Ottawa Jail Hostel)

Duration: approx. 60 mins.
This tour departs from the lobby of the HI Ottawa Jail Hostel at 75 Nicholas Street.

Tour the Old Carleton County Jail and learn about why Ottawa was once considered ‘the most dangerous town in North America’. Learn about early prison life, as you see the jail cells, death row and the last working gallows in Canada. This tour includes stairs and is not wheelchair accessible. Commentary presented by experienced tour guides from The Haunted Walk of Ottawa in partnership with Hostelling International. A portion of the proceeds assists in the preservation of the HI-Ottawa Jail Hostel.

The Original Haunted Walk

Duration: 90 mins
This tour departs from our ticket booth at the corner of Sparks Street and Elgin Street.

This lantern-lit evening walking tour of Ottawa ghost stories and darker history features the haunting of the Bytown Museum, the Fairmont Château Laurier, Friday’s Roast Beef House and more! Explore the hidden side of the Nation’s Capital. A tried and true favourite for all ages. This tour is wheelchair accessible with assistance.

The Naughty Ottawa Pub Walk


Duration: 2 hours
This tour departs from our ticket office at 73 Clarence Street, in the Byward Market.

This tour exposes Ottawa’s risqué history: from the misbehaving citizens of Lowertown, to political scandal, affairs of the heart, and the outrageous choice of Ottawa as capital. Quench your thirst en route, with stops at local pubs (drinks not included). This tour is not appropriate for children.
