What is the difference between the tours? Which tour is the ‘best’
tour?
Depending upon what your interests are and who you have coming with you on the tour, there is plenty to choose from. If you are interested in a tour of ghost stories, “The Original Haunted Walk” in either Kingston or Ottawa is a good place to start. If you are interested in historical tours, we have some other terrific options in both cities. See Kingston Tours or Ottawa Tours for individual tour descriptions and schedules to find out all of your options!

Where do you get the information for
your tours? Where do you find your ghost stories?
All of the research for our tour is done through Local and National Archives, old newspapers, books and through interviews.
None of the ghost stories on the tour are made up by us. Most of them have come through actually interviewing and speaking to all of the people involved in the hauntings (those who are still in the land of the living of course). You can rest assured that we have done our homework, and we leave it up to you to decide which ghost stories you will choose to believe.

Will anyone jump
out of the bushes or startle us on the tour? Are we going to see any ghosts on the tour?
We don’t have anyone waiting in the bushes to jump out and scare you during our ghost tours. Although this is done on some other tours, we don't do this. We prefer to get you involved in the stories through the atmosphere, drama and evidence we present. You will have plenty to think about when you get home to your bed.
While we can’t make ghosts appear on command, some of our tour groups have certainly experienced some strange and unexplainable occurrences while the tour is in progress. So keep your eyes open, and be sure to tell your Tour Guide if anything spooky happens during the tour.
We don't need to surprise you or physically scare you to make you remember your time on the Haunted Walk! On Halloween, mind you, anything goes, so don't get too comfortable!

Do your guides dress up in historic costume?
On our ghost tours, the tour guides dress in black cloaks, and carry lanterns on the tour, so you will definitely recognize us.

Is this a good ‘family’ activity?
Are the tours appropriate for children?
The Original Haunted Walk in Ottawa and Kingston, is an activity that the whole family will enjoy. In fact, many of our biggest fans are children - one troop of girl guides has come 7 years in a row in Kingston! The stories and history on the tours may be too difficult to understand for very young children (under 6). Unless your child is prone to nightmares, you will probably find that they are less frightened by the stories on the tour than most of the adults!
Our 'Ghosts of the Fort' tour in Kingston may be too frightening for young children as the atmosphere of the Fort itself makes it quite spooky before we even get started. 'Ghosts and the Gallows' and 'The Crime and Punishment Jail Tour' in Ottawa can be too frightening for young children – seeing death row and the last working gallows in Canada sometimes even frightens us! Children are not permitted on the ‘Naughty Ottawa Pub Walk’, for obvious reasons.

Are there any tours just for adults?
The ‘Naughty Ottawa Pub Walk’ is a great tour if you want to have a fun night out on the town in
Ottawa. Weaving your way through the Byward Market, your tour guide will recount all of the humourous and scandalous stories
that most historical tours leave out! This tour is for adults only, because of the content of the tour and because it enters
pubs where the age restriction is 19+.

What are the advantages of booking a private tour?
Private tours are available year-round, in English or French. You can choose to book any of our tours, at a start time that is convenient for
your group (subject to the availability of tour guides). With a private tour, your group has a guide all to yourself, and has the flexibility
to customize the tour to suit the needs of your group. See Private Tour Information

What happens if it is raining the day of the tour?
All of tours will go rain or shine or snow. In fact, sometimes a dark stormy night can make the tours even more fun! Please dress appropriately for the weather, whatever it may be. In extreme weather circumstances, The Haunted Walk reserves the right to cancel the tour for the safety of participants. If you have any questions, please call the day of your tour: Ottawa 613-232-0344, Kingston 613-549-6366.
